Cipanas Camp December 2018

Cipanas Camp 2018, Yayasan Usaha Mulia

Hello, my name is Aldric Aldriean. Im in 10th grade, back in December i joined a camp full of acitivites that helped the community that is located in Cipanas,Indonesia. We stayed in YUM or Yayasan Usaha Mulia where we have fun with kids and teach them English and Sports. We entertain the kids and at the end of the camp, we get to interact with some high school teenagers from around the area.

We went to different places around Cipanas. We visited the homes of the people over the age of 60, we gave them food and cooking materials. Such as Cooking oil, Flour, Syrups and others. We listened to their stories about their own family. Most of them have Son's and Daughters and they are at university level, and some of them are now working. After that activity, we visited the Koi farm where we can feed Koi fishes and see the different types of Koi fishes there. We learned a traditional Dance called Tari Jaipong, its a complex dance but my group and I had fun together. We enjoyed the dance, after we learn the dance we learn to play Angklung a traditional Indonesian instrument. We get to pick the types of angklung we want to play and played our part.

After all the learning sessions, we teach majority of the Yayasan Usaha Mulia kids. We divided our group into smaller groups, around 4-6 members per group teaching around 12-15 kids each group. My group teaches English through games, so the kids can have fun as well. After the teaching session is over, we played soccer together in the soccer field. We played 10 vs 10 people, all of the kids had fun. In the first night, we had a Camp Fire. We ate burned corns and marshmallow and chat with each other while the kids go to sleep. We stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights, its full of activities but the school provide us with a lot of food. Some students from Sekolah bogor raya is sick due to the amount of activities listed.

I learned a lot from this camp, such as self awareness, integrity and respect. I now know that not everyone in the world have the same amount of resources as I do, some of them are born in places where they have a very little amount of resources to live from. I respect all the people working and studying there because they show a great amount of effort and they want to have a successful life where they can have a job with a decent amount of income. Lastly I learned integrity by following rules set by the teachers and the people there, I also stick to the schedule given by the school.
